This opportunity is driving the rise of microdisplays across AR/VR, automotive, medical, and industrial applications. Many existing solutions still struggle with resolution, compactness, power efficiency, and reliability under heat and vibration, limited by legacy analog architectures that can’t keep up with modern digital demands.
Syndiant, a pioneer in Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) microdisplays, and its subsidiary XDMicro form a full-stack semiconductor provider of high-resolution, low-power, compact display solutions. Building on nearly two decades of innovation, Syndiant’s LCoS microdisplays leverage precise digital control, high resolution, and low power in a compact reflective chip, delivering performance where traditional technologies fall short. Syndiant leads design and application development from its US headquarters, while XDMicro in China provides vertically integrated manufacturing, from liquid crystal to module and optical engine assembly, enabling high-volume automotive and consumer-grade products.
“Unlike legacy solutions like DLP or analog LC, our focus is on delivering microdisplays that perform consistently in the real world, from next-generation AR glasses, projectors, to automotive system applications. Reliability and precision aren’t just specs—they’re essential to the experiences our customers are creating,” says Daniel Wong, President and CEO.
From Design to Integration
Syndiant’s LCoS microdisplays are reflective chips that modulate light to create projected images. Paired with ASIC controllers and integrated with optical engines, they form high-performance solutions for compact form factors. Syndiant’s architecture facilitates programmability, enabling manufacturers to fine-tune color and imaging performance. It also supports future advances like phase modulation for holographic displays and MicroLED development.
While material science gives Syndiant an edge, XDMicro, its vertically integrated manufacturing arm in China, ensures that advantage scales. It brings liquid crystal, module, and optical engine assembly under one roof, leveraging wafer-scale integration to cut LCOS production cycles from months to weeks and deliver certified, high-reliability solutions for consumer and automotive applications. Adhering to ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and other standards, the company delivers certified, high-reliability solutions for both consumer and automotive applications.
Real-World Applications and Future
These developments have already produced industry firsts. Syndiant is the first LCOS company in the world with Automotive AEC-Q100 certified panels, paving the way for head-up displays, in-car projection, and entertainment systems in electric and autonomous vehicles. The company is ranked among the top five LCoS solution providers worldwide by Maximize Market Research and with its XDMicro design and manufacturing facility in China, it is the only China-based company in that tier.
Customer collaborations reinforce this momentum. Syndiant’s displays power multiple in-vehicle systems for Geely Automotive, including AR head-up displays and rear-seat entertainment, showing how one core technology enables diverse in-car functions. Industry firsts such as 0.55” 4K and 0.23” panels, with the latter featuring 2 µm pixels and 12,000 PPI, deliver nearly 4 million pixels in compact form for next-generation AR, MR, and automotive interiors.
Backed by global partnerships and XDMicro’s presence in China, the company is expanding into new markets, with a focus to expand beyond LCoS to MicroLED and hybrid light modulation. With displays turning into platforms for extensive engagement and new-age information, Syndiant delivers images with solid systems that customers can rely on. In an era where performance, size, and reliability all tend to compete with one another, the company has united them in a single solution, setting a new standard for the industry.
